The Winter X Games, one of the main events in the world of freestyle skiing, is to take place outside of the United States for the first time ever. Tignes has been chosen by the organisers ESPN and CANAL+ EVENTS to host this huge event March 10-12, 2010.

The event will bring together ESPN's world class X Games franchise with France's leading pay TV broadcaster. A definitive list of the world's top winter action sports athletes will be invited to France to compete for medals and prize money.

The European Winter X Games will consist of eight events over three days which will include the Ski and Snowboard Super Pipe, the men's and women's Slopestyle as well as a Snowmobile demonstration.

Tignes Ski & Snowboard Resort Manager, Sebastien Merignargues told OnTheSnow: "Nothing could be more justified than Tignes as the host resort of the first Winter X Games Europe. Tignes, the sportiest European ski resort, is always at the forefront of action and freestyle winter sports."

The fact that Tignes is the first European resort to host the Winter X Games is in recognition of its solid experience in the organisation of international snow sports events.
