Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia has started blowing snow and anticipates opening Wednesday, Nov. 25 the day before Thanksgiving. The Intrawest resort got its first coating of natural snow Oct. 18 and started stockpiling the machine-made variety consistently the first week in November, according to Communications Manager Laura Parquette. .

Snowshoe is offering a special Thanksgiving lodging and lift ticket package starting at $121 per person, per night for a junior studio located in Expedition Station in the village area at the top of the mountain. Snowshoe is inverted so all amenities sit above the slopes. The package includes daily lift tickets. There is a four-night minimum stay for the price point.

Junior studios include a queen size bed, a queen size sleeper sofa, a two-burner stove, a dorm size refrigerator, a microwave, toaster, and coffee pot. Snowshoe is allowing children up to 12 years old to ski or snowboard free Nov. 25 to Dec. 23, adding value to a Thanksgiving stay. Kids up to 5 years old always ski or snowboard free. There is no extra change for children in the junior studio.

"Snowshoe is planning some fun family oriented events for Thanksgiving such as the Turkey Olympics and frozen turkey bowling," added Parquette.

The Inn at Snowshoe has a lodging special: $95 per person per night, with a fourth night free on three-day stays.   Rooms include two double beds and a private bath. A complimentary bar-style breakfast is offered, and the Inn has a full restaurant, a pub, and a pool. This deal is good on other weekends as well. The Inn sits at the bottom of the mountain so it is necessary to drive to the lifts. Parking on the mountain is complimentary.
