The 48th annual Ski & Snowboard Expo at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, N.Y., Nov. 6 to 8, has released more details on the lineup of events and attractions.
These include a hands-on demo of the SnowScoot, a cross between a BMX bike and a snowboard, invented in France in 1991 and on display at Albany for the first time at this show.
The Shelter Skate Team will showcase their skateboard talent on the main stage at the expo. The shop, which features a full line of equipment and apparel, is attached to a full-time skate park open to new or veteran skaters. The skate team, which features some of the Capital Region's most popular skateboarders, will demonstrate their best tricks and talents on stage throughout the weekend.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to test Wii Skiing, the hottest video game for ski lovers. The Nintendo game allows users to test their skills through a series of life-like simulations that offer a variety of challenges, charming visuals, and a great control scheme. Players will be charged a $2 fee to benefit the Double H Ranch, a year-round program for children and families faced with life-threatening or chronic illnesses.
Fitness trainers from Gold's Gym will be on hand to provide expo attendees with the fitness and health tips they need before hitting the slopes. The experienced trainers will demonstrate a series of exercises for sports fans.
The New York Capital District Ski Council teams up with Alpin Haus to present the season's sizzling ski and snowboard styles with daily fashion shows at 6 p.m. Friday, 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday, and noon and 2 p.m. Sunday.
The expo also will include its traditional array of auctions, previously used equipment sales, workshops and seminars.
The first 500 people on Sunday get a free lift ticket to Mount Snow.
This year's expo is sponsored by Alpin Haus, and features the return of "Free Lift Ticket Sunday" at which the first 500 paying customers through the door on Sunday Nov. 8 get a free lift ticket to Mount Snow.
Show hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Nov. 6, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 7, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 8.
Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for kids 7-12. Children 6 and under are free with a paying adult.
Each visitor gets a coupon book with discounts on winter ski apparel, equipment, and lift tickets to several ski areas. The show will feature more than 100 exhibitors showing new clothing, equipment, and travel information.
