Park City has long been praised for its free, local transportation throughout town. But you're stuck when it comes to leaving Summit County. You either drive your own car from Salt Lake City, call a cab, or book a shuttle. Until now.

Greyhound buses will depart downtown SLC at 300 South 600 West at 7:45 a.m. every day and stop in Kimball Junction at 8:25 a.m. where skiers, locals, or visitors can catch the Park City Transit Bus into town. Passengers will pay $16.50 for a roundtrip ticket (21-day advance; or a Web fare of $27.63 RT). Your advance ticket will cost $13 during Easter and Presidents' Day weekend.

That's a significantly cheaper option than hailing a cab for $90 one way...if you can rally that early.

Greyhound says they want to provide affordable service to people. Park City Transportation and All Resort Express shuttle services charge about $37 per person, one way.

The buses have WiFi and room for ski bags but you may want to bring a change of clothes for après ski. The bus for Salt Lake doesn't pick up in Park City until 10:30 p.m. It gets you back into the downtown SLC station at 11:10 p.m.

Now, all that's needed is a more frequent bus system that could connect to Utah's Trax commuter train at the University of Utah, and the state's mass transit system will be really impressive. Though Greyhound's offer is only once a day, from one stop, it's a start.
