Val Gardena is hosting a range of festivities and events this Dec. for visitors of all ages.

The traditional Val Gardena Christkindlmarkt (Christmas Market) will take place Dec. 4-31 in Santa Cristina. Visitors can browse decorated stalls selling old fashioned wooden toys, listen to live music from Christmas choirs, and drink ladles of mulled wine.

The 14th Snow Sculpture Competition in Val Gardena will attract the crowds Dec. 26-29 when artists and novices will stand side by side, putting their creative skills to the test by competing to make the best snow sculpture.

Val Gardena will also welcome the Alpine Ski World Cup Dec. 18-19, 2009, when it hosts two World Cup races -the Men's Super-G and the Downhill. The Super-G will take place Dec. 18 and the Downhill, Dec. 19. Some ski courses will have limited accessibility to the public during the FIS World Cup races, but most of the terrain is available.

Val Gardena is introducing a number of new lifts and slopes for 2009-10. Skiers and snowboarders can enjoy a new 12-seater cable car ‘Ciampinoi' (2400 p/h) which replaces the old chairlift. There also will be a mix cable car/cabins lift ‘Telemix' which replaces the old chairlift ‘Bullaccia' and will be extended a further 300 metres. The lifts will be open Dec. 4, 2009 to April 11, 2010.
