The Tanglwood Ski Area and Winter Park in Pennsylvania may be the best dollar for dollar value in the state, especially for families. Lift tickets for use 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays cost  $10 during non-holiday weeks. That's $2.50 per hour to ski or snowboard.  Another option is 20 percent off the regular day ticket price of $38 for adults and $30 for children 6 - 14 and seniors 65 - 69 Thursdays. Rentals cost $10.

The "value" offer on Fridays is buy one lift ticket and get one free;  on Saturday five tickets to ski, snowboard, or tube cost $55. Season passes are on sale for $215 through Nov. 30 for a $55 savings.

Tanglwood is open Thursdays to Sundays except for holiday weeks. Thursday to Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The mountain is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. During holiday weeks the mountain is open Monday to Wednesday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Nine trails spill over Tanglwood's terrain that claims a vertical of 415 feet. The lodge sits on top of the inverted mountain that packs a terrain park - but no halfpipe -  a tubing area, two double chairs, and two rope tows -one services the tubing park - into its 35 acres. There is a Ski Wee program for teaching children, and  several cross-country ski trails are available. The ski shop rents alpine and cross country equipment. The area hopes to open Dec. 19.
