Engadin St. Moritz is one of the first to kick off the winter season. The Diavolezza ski area in the Upper Engadin opened for business Oct. 17.

Engadin St. Moritz is reporting 10cm of fresh snow on Diavolezza's upper runs. Diavolezza (2295-2978metres) ski area is known for its excellent snow conditions and difficult slopes.

The Diavolezza slopes, at 2,978 metres above sea level, offer breathtaking views and reliable snowfall. It is also home to the longest marked and secured glacial downhill route in Switzerland, stretching 10 kilometres.

The Corvatsch aerial cable cars and the gondola lift Celerina-Marguns will be opening for the winter season Nov. 21.

Engadin St. Moritz offers access to a total of 350 kilometres of ski pistes in Switzerland's largest winter sports region. The area's 88 downhill runs are also scattered with 37 mountain restaurants serving homemade food and warm beverages.

One of the biggest winter events in St. Moritz this year is the St. Moritz City Race Nov. 28-29, which is a glitzy event in which the ski slopes move to the village and celebrities and guests compete in a parallel slalom. Also not-to-be-missed is the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Ladies Jan. 29-31, 2010.
