Beech Mountain's Oz Quad chairlift is ready to go for the season after getting an overhaul and a new engine. The lift went from a double to a quad. Capital improvements at most ski resorts are few and far between these days but Beech is tweaking and upgrading to freshen up the resort infrastructure.

Another mountain improvement is a new private seasonal locker room facility that features 90 individual lockers with change rooms and restrooms. The lockers are located in the middle of Beech Tree village making it easy to access the village's amenities and the high speed quad.

Guests will notice other subtle changes. There's a new rental shop that offers clothing in the View Haus cafeteria, a remodeled rental facility and a new, enlarged group sales area.

Beech Mountain boasts the highest elevation in the eastern U.S.  It tops out at 5,506 feet and receives an average of 80 inches of snow annually. There are 15 slopes and nine lifts. It is located 80 miles from Asheville. Family members who may not ski or snowboard can try out the 7,000 square foot ice skating rink that sits in the middle of the village.

The season pass deadline is fast approching. Nov. 1 is the last day for discounts.
