The sixth FIS Snowboard World Cup will be held in Saas-Fee Nov. 4-5, 2009. Athletes can win valuable points and earn their ticket to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, BC.
Saas-Fee is one of the few locations where halfpipe competitions are held before the Olympics (European Cup and World Cup) and is at the same time the first location in Europe to host a halfpipe World Cup race.
Top riders from all over the world will gather in the glacier village in 2009. Organisers are expecting even more participants this year, surpassing even 2008's record-breaking numbers.
Located directly next to the World Cup pipe in Freestyle Park Allalin, the park team has built a second top class training pipe, in which the athletes can warm up, and which is open to the general public also during the competitions.
The official training will be held Nov. 2-3, then the qualifications will commence Nov. 4, and the finals Thursday Nov. 5. The six international judges will scrutinise the performance of the riders. The scoring procedures include height of the jumps, the level of difficulty, the landing, and overall impression.
Riders can earn their ticket to the Olympics this year by participating in various races and winning valuable points. The event is still open for registration.
