The Speed Skating Championships will take place on Europe's largest natural ice rink in Davos, Jan. 2-3, 2010.

The events begin at 11 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. There will be different speed skating events held on the town's ice rink. The Swiss and Austrians will be holding their National Championships over the sprint distances and also the Single Distance Championships over 100 metres, 500 metres, and 1000 metres.

On the same weekend, international teams from Norway, Holland, and Sweden will also take to the ice to compete in races over 500 metres, 1000 metres, 1500 metres, 3000 metres, and 5000 metres.

Davos offers access to 307 kilometres of ski runs, 80 percent of which are set above 2000 metres so enjoy reliable snow cover. Pistes are served by modern lifts which can transport up to 64,421 persons per hour. The longest run ‘Weissfluhgipel-Kueblis' stretches12 kilometres.

Davos is particularly popular with snowboarders. The snowpark at Jatz Junior offers kickers, rails, and the Nidecker monsterpipe while the snowpark on Bolgen has another monsterpipe and is floodlit four evenings a week.

Other winter activities in Davos include cross-country skiing, tobogganing, ice skating, ice curling, ice hockey, and a wellness centre with a steam bath, sauna, whirlpool, and two solariums.
