Val d'Isere Hosts Opening Alpine World Cup Races Dec. 11-20

The 54th edition of the Criterium de la Premiere Neige will take place in December 2009. Spectators will enjoy six Alpine World Cup Ski events - including the Giant Slalom, Super G, Downhill, and the Super Combined - as well as masses of entertainment.

The women's event will take place Dec. 11, 12, and 13, and the men's event Dec. 18, 19, 20. Young competitors have their own international race in Val d'Isere: the much-awaited Scara which takes place April 6-11, 2010. 

Val d'Isere is part of the extensive Espace Killy ski area with 300 kilometres of pistes accessed via 90 modern lifts. Espace Killy is also home to 44 kilometres of cross-country ski tracks, two terrain parks, and two glaciers. This year Espace Killy is kicking off the winter season Nov. 28, 2009.

Val d'Isere's end-of-year celebrations feature a Christmas market and village, snowmen, children's shows, and a visit from Father Christmas from Dec. 21 to Jan. 4.

Other winter events in Val d'Isere include the weekly Les Nuits Rouges which takes place every Thursday; the Polo Masters Jan. 14-17; the Gourmet Cuisine On The Slopes March 15-20; the Adventure & Discovery Film Festival April 19-22; and the Reader's World April 24-May 2.
