B.C. resorts along the Powder Highway are teaming up to offer one lucky ski bum the chance to travel the highway and ski for free for three months. The Powder Highway, which is actually a series of highways in eastern British Columbia, contains eight resorts with lift access skiing, nine heli-ski operations, 16 cat-ski companies, and numerable backcountry ski lodges.

Kootenay Rockies Tourism, which represents resorts along the Powder Highway, is hosting the Ultimate Ski Bum Contest. The winner will travel the Powder Highway for three months this winter blogging and videoing their experiences. Accommodation and transportation are provided.

The contest requires a 90-second video to be submitted by Nov. 22. Applicants must be at least 19 years old and own a drivers license valid in Canada. The videos, which should convey why the applicant should be picked as the Ultimate Ski Bum, will be shown on the Powder Highway YouTube Channel with a winner announced on Dec. 1.

The winner will receive lift access for Red Mountain, Whitewater, Revelstoke, Kicking Horse, Panorama, Fairmont Hot Springs, Kimberley, and Fernie. Fifteen days of heli- or cat-skiing will also be included. Accommodations are provided in various hotels and lodges at the resorts, plus a vehicle is supplied with a $500 gas card.

The winner, who will travel the Powder Highway January through March, is expected to share his or her experiences via blogging.
