It's not too early to plan for Sugar Mountain's SugarFest scheduled Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 12 and 13 at the North Carolina Resort because the weekend is jammed packed with activities. The two-day event is sponsored by the Village of Sugar Mountain Tourism Development Authority. It coincides with the resort's 16th Annual Adult Preseason Ski Clinic.
This year 1994 Olympic Gold and 1992 Olympic Silver medalist Diann Roffe serves as a guest coach. She will be joined by two-time Olympian Krista Schmidinger. Ski and snowboard equipment will be available for demo from most major brands including Salomon, Volkl, Nordica, Burton, Head, Never Summer, K2, Atomic, Dynastar, Rossignol, Ride, Line, and Nidecker. A valid driver's license or credit card is required for the demo.
The clinic runs 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. The consumer demo goes from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day.
SugarFest activities include ice skating and tubing sessions every two hours from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day. There's a snowball eating contest at 3 p.m. Saturday, an After Ski Party from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and fireworks at 5:45 p.m.
Unique features Sunday include ice sculpting at 10 a.m. and a Burton Rail Jam session at noon.
