Chad Fleischer spent 12 years on the United States Ski Team, traveling the world as the number one downhill racer for the United States. The Vail skier competed in two Olympics ('94 and '98), won two downhill national championships, all while by traveling warp speed down a mountain. He then dyed his hair in a leopard print haircut, when he really wanted to get noticed.
Now Chad Fleischer has settled in Steamboat and is venturing off into retail. Fleischer Sport opens at the base area of Steamboat Dec. 10. The new store is at the latest Steamboat base area property, One Steamboat Place, which is a new $200 million project just getting finished.
Fleischer says he is using his name and experience in the ski industry to bring unique products not previously offered in Steamboat. "The premise behind my name being on the store and me starting a ski shop is that it will be one-of-a-kind, first class, and top shelf, at the base of the ski area. I plan to be very personalized in my approach and selective in my product."
Fleischer Sport will rent and sell Armada skis, which is a high-end skiing line for freeskiing and park and pipe, as well as Blizzard. In fact, he is already sponsoring the Steamboat Armada Freestyle team. He'll also offer JetSet clothing, POC helmets and goggles, Reusche gloves, and the Hell is for Heroes clothing line which he describes as "super rad."
Fleischer says the store is in a "killer location," right where the new gondola unloads. It will be vibrant, with a social atmosphere and even a coffee bar. "I want it to be where people come and talk about their equipment and hang out, because they have a passion for the sport."
The store is set to open Dec. 10, but you can reserve ski and snowboard rentals now. You can bet the rentals will be brand new.
