Resorts in this article: Steamboat, Copper Mountain Resort, Winter Park Resort
Kids in ski school will be required to wear helmets at all Intrawest Resorts. Those resorts in Colorado are Copper Mountain, Steamboat, and Winter Park. Helmets are mandatory for all skiers and snowboards 15 years old and under who participate in the Ski & Snowboard School programs. Anyone participating in the freestyle terrain park programs, regardless of age, are required to wear a helmet, too. It includes ski school staff.
Parents used to be able to sign an "opt-out" clause on the children's waivers. Not anymore. Helmets will now be included in all rental packages.
David Roth at Copper says, "The big message is that safety is a number one priority here at Copper and we encourage all guests and employees to ski and ride in a controlled and responsible manner."
Loryn Kasten at Steamboat adds, "We are happy to support any initiative that will keep our skiers and riders safe, especially young skiers participating in our ski school program."
Intrawest plans to require employees to wear a helmet at all times while skiing or snowboarding on-duty in any freestyle terrain park at its resorts during this season. Staff has to wear a helmet anytime they serve as a guide or instructor for any program that requires mandatory helmet use by a resort guest, during the following season as well.
