Starting in mid-December you can pick up a Discover Michigan Skiing Value Voucher, which includes a beginner lesson, ski or snowboard rental equipment and a beginner area lift pass or cross-country trail pass; your choice. Twenty ski facilities throughout the Wolverine State will be offering lessons from Jan. 2 through the end of the month. The cost for downhill or cross-country skiing is $30 for adults and $25 for children 7-14 years old. The cost of the snowboard package is $40 and available to those 10 and older. Program times differ at the various ski areas, which includes some of the state's best; both Boyne Mountain and Highlands, Caberfae Peaks, Indianhead Mountain, Mt. Brighton, Mt. Holly, Pine Knob and Shanty Creek to name just a few. Participants must the call the area of their choice to pre-register once they've obtained a voucher.
