Nowhere else in North America can skiers and snowboarders hit seven world-class resorts while lodging in a major metropolitan setting. It's all about staying in Salt Lake City when you want affordable hotels, meals, and shopping yet the ski experience and terrain of a lifetime.

You won't even need a car if you plan to ski Alta, Snowbird, Brighton or Solitude. The Utah ski buses can get you there. Completing the ultimate ski vacation is the Ski Salt Lake Super Pass. It is good for day passes at each of Salt Lake's Cottonwood ski resorts.

The Super Pass can be loaded from one to six days of powder-packed skiing or riding, good over a seven-day period, and includes free round-trip transportation from downtown and suburban Salt Lake via UTA ski buses and TRAX light rail. That way, you won't need to decide in advance where you want to ski to avoid paying ticket window prices. Ski any of the four resorts for $58 per day. (Snowbird's tickets are $72.)

Book your stay by Dec. 15 and save even more. You'll get your fourth night of lodging and your lift ticket free when you book a four-day, four-night Ski Salt Lake winter vacation.

Did you know that you can also ski Snowbasin from Salt Lake City? Snowbasin Resort and The Grand America, both owned by Sinclair Oil magnate Earl Holding, have teamed up to present a specially priced January ski package. Starting at $199, the packages include executive suite accommodations in the 24-story, AAA Five-Diamond downtown Salt Lake City hotel, an all area adult lift ticket to Snowbasin, complimentary valet parking, and a slope survival welcome gift.

Optional packages include upgraded ski and snowboard equipment rentals. Kids ski free with a paying adult so turn this into family time. Round-trip transportation from The Grand America to Snowbasin, 46 miles north of the hotel, is available by reservation. Package rates are valid Jan. 4-30.

Adding to what Likeabat said, the bus schedule was terrible last year from the the midvale locations. I stay at the end of the bus lines there every year because of the inexpensive hotel rates, and you never have to worry about getting a seat if you are on at the 1st stop, but last season the bus schedule was so limited that you had to pick up the bus before 6am and you didn't get dropped off at the end of the day until after 6pm. There used to be about 6 buses picking people up until about 9 or 10 am and then the return trips would begin at about 2-3, but now there are only 1 or 2 max buses for each resort. This year, I'm driving from Southern California so I'll save on airfare & car rental. The drive is pretty too (I did it 2 years ago).

Unless the bus schedule has changed for 09/10, then riding the bus from downtown SLC to the resorts is a BAD idea. Last year the bus schedules were horribly inconvient from downtown. Most trips required you to change buses (or to a train) enroute and/or required you to leave the resorts 1 hour before the lifts closed to catch the last bus downtown. Some connections only gave you a few minutes to switch busses - if your buss was running late, you could be stuck. Even if your connections went smoothly, you were looking at a very long commute to the slopes.

Last year we threw in the towel and rented a car.

I should mention that 2 years ago the UTA "ski bus" schedule was far, FAR more convienent from downtown - offering direct (no connections) busses to Alta and Snowbird with reasonable pick-up/drop-off times. Hopefully that schedule will be offered.
