Los Angeles has kicked off the winter ski and snowboard season for 45 years with its snow exhibition. This fall is no exception. The 46th Ski Dazzle show hits town for four days Oct. 29 - Nov. 1.
The expo, scheduled in the Los Angeles Convention Center, features more than 375 exhibitor and sponsor booths. Entertainment, prizes, competitions, and advice from experts are all part of the show.
New and used gear is also available. More than 20 retail exhibitors will feature the latest in equipment and clothing-some with discounts up to 70 percent of regular retail rates. A ski and snowboard swap also takes place, allowing participants to sell their old gear or buy inexpensive used equipment.
Ski Dazzle also features the Action Sports Film Theater with previews of this year's ski and snowboard films. Other entertainment includes a climbing wall, rail slide lessons (bring your own gear), a rail jam, and the Bear Mountain Vert Ramp with skaters and BMX riders. A tire chain installation contest also will award a $500 cash prize to the person who can put on the chains the fastest. Informal seminars on winter photography, equipment, travel bargains, and new technology will also take place throughout the four days.
Those attending the Los Angeles show will receive a free lift ticket coupon offer with each paid admission. The coupon, good for skiing or riding at Bear Mountain and Snow Summit, must be redeemed at the show for a full-day lift adult ticket valid any day until Dec. 18, a midweek non-holiday two-for-one adult lift ticket valid beginning Jan. 4, $30 off a season pass, or a free adult non-holiday night sliding session.
Admission to Ski Dazzle costs $17. Tickets for kids ages 6-12 years old cost $5. Tickets are available online.
