Appalachian Mountain will be home for Burton's first Progression Park this winter. It is Burton's first park south of Maryland and the first in North Carolina. Appalachian's French Swiss Ski College will use the park for terrain park and freestyle lessons.

Terrain park instruction will be offered as private lessons for those eight years of age or older. Prospective students must be able to ski or ride advanced terrain at the mountain but prior terrain park experiecnce is not required. Lessons will be offered Saturdays and Sundays by prior appointment.

The Burton Progression Park is designed for entry level park riders. It will feature Stop and Drop Zones which allow riders to check out a feature and see the proper way of riding it. Signs in each zone provides guidance with a "trick tip" and a picture of a rider hitting a feature. Each zone offers a message from the National Ski Areas Association' terrain park responsibility code that encourages people to ride with safety in mind.

"Freestyle skiing and snowboarding are two of the fastest growing segments of the ski industry in North America," said Terrain Park Director Drew Stanley. "Appalachian is proud to be the first in North Carolina to advertise terrain park instruction."

Burton started developing Progression Parks in 2005 for riders who wanted to develop terrain park skills. It now operates nearly 20 globally.
