Blue Mountain, on the southern shore of Lake Huron's Georgian Bay, stretches for a couple miles along the Niagara Escarpment offering panoramic views of the bay and historic community of Collingwood, Ontario.  Its 720-foot vertical - 220 meters for our Canadian friends - is the largest in the eastern Great Lakes.

Blue has been towing skiers up the escarpment since 1941, almost as long as any other ski area in the Heartland.  It has grown considerably since Czechoslovakian immigrant Jozo Weilder cut a couple of trails and rigged a lift made of cables, a pair of sleds and a truck engine.  Today it has an Intrawest village, 36 trails ranging from beginner to double black diamond, two terrain parks, a super pipe, and 14 lifts, including four high-speed express chairs.  It's one of the best snowsports resorts in the Great Lakes Region.

Blue's season pass sale is going through the end of the month, and now is the time to buy.  Prices will be going up in November.

The Super Pass, an all-access pass anytime the resort is open, is now on sale for $699 for adults, and $449 for seniors (65+) and youth (6-17).  The pass respectively goes up Nov. 2 to $869 and $569.  Kids 5 and under ski and ride free with an adult Super Pass purchase.

A Night Value Pass, valid five nights a week, Sunday through Thursday from 4:30 to 10 p.m., is good from Jan. 3 through the end of the season.  The pass is now $99 and goes up to $149 after Nov. 2.  For kids 5 and under the pass is just $10 with the purchase of a regular Night Value Pass

The 5X7 Pass, now $169, is valid five days a week, Monday through Friday, and seven nights per week throughout the season, except for days during the holiday period, Dec. 21 to Jan. 1.  The pass will go up to $279 Nov. 2. A kid's 5X7 Pass (5 and under) is $10 with the purchase of an adult pass.

Season pass holders also get other benefits like special lodging prices, 15 percent off purchases at Blue's retail stores and off food purchases at Jozo's, the Pottery Restaurant and Blue Mountain food courts.  Super Pass holders receive $25 off regular lift tickets, up to five days, at other Intrawest winter resorts anytime during the season, and there are also discounts for the Scandinave Spa at Blue Mountain.
