Mt. Bachelor invested $1.25 million in mountain improvements for this winter's season. The upgrades will benefit skiers and riders in several ways.

Northwest Express Quad, which relied on an internal computer system and circuit wiring from its original installation in 1996, has been upgraded with current Doppelmayr systems. The new computer system and wiring should improve chair spacing and reduce nuisance slows and stops which happen at morning start-up and in challenging weather conditions.

The ski patrol also acquired new tools to assist in avalanche control. New instruments and data loggers will aid in evaluating weather, snow, and avalanche conditions. The GT Falcon Avalauncher will target the moraine above the Skyliner Express and the base of the Summit Express lifts, reducing both the exposure risk to patrollers and the time needed to clear the area for the public.

Other on-slope improvements include improved snow fencing, new rails and features for Mt. Bachelor's terrain parks, and continued tree removal following last winter's ice storm.

Other improvements include grooming equipment for the cross-country ski area. A new snow mover, back-ordered from a year ago, should increase snow removal in the parking lots by 50 percent. Bachelor's base lodges will also have high-speed wireless Internet.

As much as I like to see money spent on improvements, this is no more than what has to be done to keep the resort from degrading.Powder Corp needs to do a lot more than this to keep Mt Bachelor a prime resort. The fact that Mt Bachelor has no nearby competition keeps any REAL improvements and money spent.Lets not kid ourselves, this resort could be so much more and isn't. Don't get me wrong, the Mt. has some good terrain but compared to other resorts of this size in the country,Powder Corp is doing the bare minimum to get by.Its to bad to because Bachelor could be amazing.
