The Eagle County Airport has recently reopened the main runway after a runway extension and maintenance project. It is ready for the winter ski season. Beaver Creek chefs brought freshly-baked cookies to welcome the first commercial flight to touch down after the summer-long closure.
The Eagle Airport is a convenient option to get you to your favorite Colorado resort. The airport is centrally located between resorts such as Vail and Beaver Creek as well as Sunlight Mountain Resort in Glenwood Springs. The Aspen-area resorts (Aspen Mountainj, Snowmass, Buttermilk, and Aspen Highlands) are about 70 miles away. Steamboat is 90 miles to the north. The Summit County Resorts of Keystone, Breckenridge, and Copper are between 60 and 70 miles away. You can rent a car or take a shuttle.
The airport is served by four commercial carriers: American, Continental, Delta, and United, with non-stop service from 13 major markets nationwide. United Express offers four daily non-stop flights from Denver. American Airlines offers service five days a week from Dallas/Fort Worth. The full winter schedule begins in mid-December.
Flights from some cities get you even more. Book a ticket into the Eagle Airport from Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas/Fort Worth, or Denver, from Nov. 20 through April 11 and you can ski for free at Vail or Beaver Creek upon the day of your arrival. You must have a valid boarding pass and a Vail Valley lodging confirmation.
American Airlines offers a deal for kids ages 2-12 flying into the Eagle Airport. You can get one free child ticket for every adult fare purchased with the Kids Fly Free program. This offer also allows kids to ski and stay for free at Vail or Beaver Creek. Colorado Mountain Express transports kids for free as part of this offer. Commercial flights have been flying into the Eagle Airport for 20 years. The airport is estimated to contribute more than $982 million dollars to the local economy annually by serving 440,000 passengers every year.
