Local ranchers bring their best horses to haul the local kids down the street, pulled by a rope, while competing in different contests, such as ski joring for speed, tossing a ring in a box while being pulled by the horse, or landing a 360 off the donkey jump at Lincoln and 9th. Saturday night at Howelsen Hill (also downtown) is the infamous light show, put on by the skiers and riders of the world-renowned Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. They'll do torchlight and glowstick parades, fiery hoop jumps, fireworks, and finally the Lighted Man. He's a long-time local, covered in Christmas lights, with flames and flares shooting from his body, as he skis down the black-diamond face of Howelsen. It's festive and it's fun, and something you don't want to miss. For more information, call the Winter Sports Club at 970-879-0695. Photo Credit: Steamboat/Larry Pierce.
