The Burner 12-Hour Downhill claims to end your 2009 season in style. It's 12 hours of all you can handle downhill on the gnarly terrain at Angel Fire Resort. You'll race all day and into the night on three tracks. This extreme downhill mountain bike challenge is geared to sport-, expert- and pro-class mountain bike riders. The race starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, and finishes at 9 p.m. that night. The winners of the challenge are determined by total number of laps in the 12-hour period.

Three of Angel Fire's top bike park DH trails will be utilized simultaneously for the event. It begins with a mass start staggered by rider class-level. Categories will include solo, dual and team entries. Over $5,000 in cash and prizes will be distributed to first to third place riders in each category and class, with top cash prizes awarded to solo riders.

Rentals will be available, but limited. Tech support will be available at the base area adjacent to the chairlift, although riders are responsible for their own repair and equipment replacement.  they'll have a Final Descent Freeride Day Sunday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tickets are half price in honor of the last day of lift-accessed biking for the season.

The Resort is looking for this event to become an annual end-of-summer-season ritual.

Riders and spectators will love the 70-degree days and brilliant hues of yellow, orange and red that dot the slopes of Angel Fire.

Angel Fire came up with a Fall Blazin' Glory package to help motivate you to visit. The promotion includes a $79 room rate in the Lodge plus the third night free. Check out The Lodge's recent remodel, log in on their free wi-fi, and pick up a 2009-10  season pass while you're there.

The golf course is open until Oct. 19 if you're not into mountain biking. You can also fish, paddle, horseback ride, ATV tour, Eurobungy, play disc golf or tennis, rock climb, and hike.

Culinary geeks might dig the Autumn Wine Pairing Dinners at Caliente Grill, Oct. 3 and Oct. 10 from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. The cost is $65 per person and reservations are required.
