Boyne Mountain will host its first ever SkiToberfest, which takes place Oct. 3-4. The new event celebrates the coming winter season with a Snowsports Summit hosted by former Olympian Cary Adgate and an Oktoberfest for the whole family.
Winter X-Games gold medalist Simon Dumont, and former U.S. Ski Team Coach Greg Needell will be speaking at the Summit, along with a host of other ski racing activities. The Oktoberfest features a dozen popular Michigan breweries, 30 varieties of bratwurst plus other gourmet food, live music and dancing, and for the kids, there's art, a bounce house, and instrument making.
The Oktoberfest will be staged in the Mountain Village beginning at 2 p.m., Saturday, with brew, food and games. Numerous Michigan wines will also be available for tasting as well as some of the Wolverine States' best microbrews. Admission is $20 and includes 12 tickets for beer and wine sampling. The very thirsty may purchase additional tickets. Attendees can also enjoy local art, family hayrides, a pumpkin patch, fall color chairlift rides, a parade, and more. Diehard Michigan and Michigan State football fans have no need to worry. The game will be broadcast on a giant screen.
The Snowsports Summit, hosted by two-time Olympian and former U.S. Ski Team member Adgate, will take place Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. It will include informative sessions on gearing up for the coming winter and getting ready for competition. Dumont, who won two gold medals in the Winter X-Games, also holds the current world quarter pipe height record. Needell, the U.S. Ski Team Coach from 2002-2008, helped lead the men's team to 43 wins, 105 podiums and 264 top ten finishes. Entry to the Summit is $5 per person.
