Zermatt is hosting equipment testing on its glacier this autumn. This season's ski and snowboard equipment from top brands will be available for testing throughout Oct. and Nov. The resort has also announced special equipment testing package deals from now until the end of November.

Package deals include a lift ticket, free ski/board equipment testing, and accommodation (some with breakfast).  Accommodation choices range from two- to four-star hotels or three- to five-star apartments and packages are available for two days/nights over weekends or for three days/nights during the week.

Prices range from €160 for three days/nights' mid-week ski testing and accommodation in a three-star holiday apartment to €476 for two days/nights' weekend ski testing and accommodation in a four-star superior hotel with breakfast.

Ski and snowboard brands exhibiting in Zermatt include Atomic, Blizzard, Dynastar, Elan, Fischer, Head, K2, Movement, Nordica, Rossignol, Salomon, Scott, and Volkl.

Zermatt offers year-round skiing thanks to its high-altitude position. It operates the highest ski lifts in Europe and is one of the largest summer-ski areas in the world. The resort invested in new snowmaking technology from Israel last autumn which means it can make snow in virtually any temperature. There is a terrain park, half pipe and extensive beginner and intermediate level skiing and boarding.

The Matterhorn ski paradise extends from the Rothorn paradise (3103 metres), through Gornergrat (3089 metres) to the Matterhorn glacier paradise (3883 metres) and the Schwarzsee paradise (2583 metres).

My wife and I were skiing on the Zermatt gacier this Summer.
I have to say that we we most disapointed with the experience given that of the runs marked as open as displayed on the piste map at the lower lift, half of them were reserved for international ski teams who had bought the rights to exclusive use. Recreational skiers were given the more open [and boring] runs in the middle of the glacier. WE had bought 6 days worth of passes and have to say that 3 would have been enough. Complained to the Zermatt authorities who were unable to understand the problem, instead showing me time tables and piste reports showing which slopes were open [but failing to understand that they were not available to recreational skiers !!!
We were also concerned about the use of Piste bashers in the middle of the runs -carrying out piste maintenance in the middle of the morning !!!
