The French resort of Val d'Isere kicks off the winter season 2009-10 with the Alpine Skiing World Cup Dec. 11 to 20, 2009.

This will be the 54th edition of the Alpine Skiing World Cup ‘Criterium de la Premiere Neige' and there will be six events and plenty of entertainment for spectators.

Friday, Dec. 11 is the Men Super Combined; Saturday, Dec. 12 is the Men Super G; and Sunday, Dec. 13 is the Men Giant Slalom. Women's races take place the following weekend: Friday, Dec. 18 is the Women Super Combined; Saturday, Dec. 19 is the Women Downhill; and Sunday, Dec. 20 is the Women Super G.

Young competitors also have their own international race in Val d'Isère: the much awaited Scara, which takes place on April 6-11, 2010. 

Val d'Isere officially opens for the winter season 2009-10 Nov. 28. The opening weekend is an event in itself and allows skiers and snowboarders to test the latest equipment from leading brands.

Val d'Isere is part of the extensive Espace Killy ski area with its 300 kilometres of slopes. The resort has its own snowpark set at 2500 metres which can be reached by the Daille mountain railway.
