Discount programs at Wisp Resort in Maryland offer more than the usual early season purchase discounts. A 10 percent discount on season passes is available until Oct. 31. The basic adult pass sells for $539 compared to $599 beginning Nov. 1. Buy two and the per unit cost drops to $521 each. Additional family members are $233. Passes also include a 25 percent discount on tubing, group lessons and food. Blackout dates for season passes are Dec. 24, Jan. 3, Jan.15-17, and Feb. 19-20. 

Beginners can take advantage of the Get on Board Pass. True first-timers can take three lessons and get an unlimited season pass for $369.  

Fourth-graders who can prove via a valid report card that they have a B average in school can slide and ride free. The original report card is required for proof of achievement. 

Seniors over 70 years of age and children 5 and under also are free.  All passes can be ordered online.

Season pass discounts remain until Oct. 31 down the road at Snowshoe, W. Va. with the adult pass currently priced at $499. Students, seniors age 60 to 69 and military personnel pay $413. Discounts for juniors (ages 6 to 12), super seniors (70 plus), and college students are offered.  Snowshoe boasts the longest vertical in the region at 1,500 feet. The resort averages 180 inches of snow annually.
