Chamonix's snow depth is now running about a quarter above the average snow depth for this time in the season over the past decade – that's about nine feet. With it's 9,200 foot lift-served vertical Chamonix's vertical drop is the world's second biggest after Zermatt in Switzerland. Way down at the bottom of the mountain resort snow levels are much less impressive – there's about a foot of snow. But full descents are possible and off piste will be heavenly once the deluge ends (Make sure you go with a qualified guide once avalanche warnings have lessened).
