Crystal Mountain Appears In Warren Miller Film

Dynasty will feature a trailer from Crystal Mountain, Wash. "Dynasty" will feature a trailer from Crystal Mountain, Wash.

The Warren Miller film crew showed up at Crystal Mountain Resort last March to shoot footage for its 60th anniversary movie. Now Crystal Mountain skiers look forward to seeing themselves and their friends in the trailer for "Dynasty," the new Warren Miller flick touring later this fall.

The film crew shot footage at Crystal Mountain for a week. Storms dumped snow the minute the crews arrived, and then skies cleared for bluebird views of Mt. Rainier perched above the Washington Cascades.

Local athletes joined visiting pros for the shoot. Pro freeskier Ingrid Backstrom, who grew up skiing at Crystal, returned to the slopes to add the film to her growing list of ski film credits.

Southback was closed during part of the shoot while a few locals perched up at the Throne to watch. The closure, however, struck controversy with some skiers and riders who wanted access to its fresh powder.

"Dynasty" visits terrain in Alaska, Norway, China, and British Columbia, in addition to Crystal Mountain. Schedules for the film tour should be released by the end of September.

Crystal landed the trailer spot through a two-year sponsorship partnership with Warren Miller Entertainment. The payback comes this fall when locals get to see themselves on the big screen.
