Chamonix has reported the biggest falls of up to 40cm (16 inches) in recent storms bringing the deepest reported depth in France to date with up to a metre (40 inches) of snow in places. Off piste skiing is now possible with great conditions reported by those lucky enough to be on the French slopes. The snow is expected to continue on and off throughout the rest of the week meaning most French resorts should be fully open by the end of the week if they are not already. The only weather problems related to the current welcome falls have been strong winds that have led to the closure of higher lifts at Chamonix (meaning fresh powder fields remain untouched at present) whilst heavy snow at some at other resorts has led to closures whilst lifts are dug out.
