Steamboat prides itself on being kid-friendly—the resort set the standard in the industry way back in 1982, with the Kids Ski Free™ program. Kids and grandkids ages 12 and under can ski free the same number of days as their parents and grandparents, when they purchase a multiple-day adult lift ticket good for five days or more, at regular price.
The deal is good all season, with no blackout dates although a few rules go along with it, such as the deal isn’t good with other discounts. Seniors must purchase a regularly-priced adult ticket to be eligible. One kid per parent/grandparent. Kids have to prove that they’re 12 or under, too.
Kids participating will also receive discounted ski rentals at all Steamboat Ski & Sport locations and RideSports when their parents rent skis for five or more days.
One of the newer shops at the base area of Steamboat is taking it one step further. Fleischer Sport ski rentals is offering the Kids Always Rent Free Program in Steamboat. Two-time Olympian and World Cup Downhill Superstar Chad Fleischer runs the shop.
“This program is designed to make sure parents don't have to think about whether or not they get their kids into skiing," Fleischer said. "It allows them to spend money on lunch and ski school.”
For every paid adult ski rental, your child will rent free with no minimum of days or blackout dates. Kids have to be 12 or younger, and the reservation needs to be made 48 hours in advance online.
Fleischer is the father of two young boys. He said he wants to show how his store is committed to families with this new program.
“We need to break down the barriers to entry for the young demographic of skiers in the U.S.,” Fleischer said.
Steamboat opens for the season on Scholarship Day, Nov. 23.
