The town of Breckenridge checked in with eight inches of snow, with even more on the mountain after a storm the weekend of Oct. 12-14. Keystone was close behind. Hunters in the Aspen and Snowmass areas reported more than a foot of snow in some backcountry locations. Any precipitation in the high country results in snow on the slopes at this time of the year. This is a good early season sign.
Snowmaking has started at Keystone and will get underway this week at Breckenridge, to supplement the conditions Both resorts open Friday, Nov. 9.
While the snow is exciting, people in Colorado are equally fired up over the Colorado Rockies as they make their way through the playoffs, hopefully on their way to the World Series. It sets the phones ringing at the resorts with anxious skiers making their reservations, when they see the Rockies on national TV playing in snow.
