Europe's highest brewery "AsitzBräu" opens at 1763m in the Austrian ski region of Leogang in December.

The AsitzBräu brewery is a high alpine Bavarian beer hall located next to the old blacksmith's shop, opposite the mountain station of the Asitz gondola.

This authentic brewery and restaurant has been purchased and renovated by the Altenberger family, owners of the Krallerhof hotel. The building is set over three floors: on the ground and first floors is the restaurant with an open kitchen and a beechwood grill for cooking specialities like sausages and pork knuckles. On the second floor is the old brewhouse where you can watch the art of brewing beer using traditional equipment, from the brine tank to the historic chiller.

The official opening of the AsitzBräu is Dec. 17 and what better way to celebrate than with a beer festival at 1763m? Apart from copious amounts of beer, there will also be live music from the Swamp Toads who made a popular appearance at the Munich Oktoberfest.

The ski resort of Leogang offers the best of both worlds, being a small, pretty village with access to the huge ski area of Saalbach-Hinterglemm (200km/55 ski lifts).
