The TomTom Adventurer GPS outdoor watch kept the motivation strong and the running on-task as a training tool for a half marathon. In addition to road and trail running, the multi-sport tracking capabilities also made for a good companion for activities such as hiking, skiing/snowboarding and cycling, just to name a few of the various sport modes. From a training perspective, the Adventurer can easily muscle its way into the crowded marketplace and stands out as a top option for multi-sport training tools.

Favorite Features

The integration between the watch and the TomTom Sports App is easy to set up and sync, and the app logs your activity in a user-friendly interface, displaying all the usual metrics like distance, pace and heart rate. TomTom takes it a step further with additional data points, including elevation gain, max speed (skiing/boarding) and max gradient, all displayed with a GPS-enabled map of your route to encourage exploration of new trails and training routes. The Bluetooth headphones and integrated music player are an excellent addition, and the set up and sync was a breeze here as well.

On-Trail Performance

While running or hiking, our tester appreciated the ability to easily toggle between heart rate, average pace, calories and distance, along with the other metrics in real time. The fitness tracker's battery life is surprisingly strong, with enough juice to track a week’s worth of training runs.

Fit

The face of the watch is on the larger side, but the strap fit well and stayed in position like a champ at all times.

Room for Improvement

Our tester suggests a sleeker face, which may be a touch big for women as is, as well as higher end options for straps so the watch can be worn seamlessly from the trail to the office.
