2.23 Snow Before You Go: Three Storms Target West

Copyright: Meteorologist Chris Tomer

Three different storm systems will roll across the West over the next five days. The final two storm systems may actually combine into one larger storm system late in the weekend. In the Northeast, a large storm system develops on Saturday-Sunday, but it looks warm initially.

Colorado, Utah: There are three storm systems lined up. Moderate to heavy snow continues on Thursday before turning lighter on Friday and ending late. Alta, Snowbird, Snowmass and Steamboat are all in good position with this first storm system. The second storm system delivers a quick shot of light to moderate snow between Saturday night and Sunday night. The final storm delivers moderate to heavy snow accumulations on Monday and Tuesday. Brian Head, Silverton, Wolf Creek, Purgatory, Monarch and Telluride are in good position for that final storm system.

Wyoming, Montana, Idaho: Essentially, three storm systems over the next five days. Moderate to heavy snow continues on Thursday and turns lighter on Friday before ending late. Then a break in the action on Saturday. Then light snow spreads in on Sunday and increases in intensity on Monday and Tuesday. Schweitzer, Sun Valley, Jackson Hole, Grand Targhee, Big Sky and Whitefish are in good position for the final storm system.

California: We'll see a break in the heavy snow pattern between Thursday-Saturday. It may still snow lightly at times, but a return to heavier snow doesn't arrive until Sunday-Monday as two storm systems combine.

Pacific Northwest: Three storm systems are lined up. Light snow accumulations on Thursday-Friday trickling into Saturday morning. The final storm delivers moderate to heavy snow accumulations Sunday-Monday.

Whistler/Blackcomb: There are three storm systems lined up, but snow amounts look light until the third storm arrives Saturday night through Sunday with moderate accumulations.

Northeast: Conditions start out mild with rain showers until a stronger storm system and cold front arrive late Saturday into Sunday. After the cold front blasts through, a period of moderate snow at the ski areas is likely.
