Kayakers from the Colorado and New Mexico region will be competing for prizes and bragging rights as they slide and roll kayaks down the Monarch April 4. Snow Boater X pits contestants in a head-to-head race on a specially designed course for kayaks and fun. Similar to Skier Cross, boaters bear down a path of berms, banks, and bumps ending in an icy pond; two boats side by side, placed on separate tracks/courses for the Downhill and four boats at one time on same start line (not individual tracks) for the Boater Cross.

The action takes place on the Freeway run. If you need to slow down, you basically flip over and drag your head. This is as fun to watch as it is to race. Bartenders have their day as well with the 2009 Bartender Challenge- obstacle course for bartenders, waitstaff and/or anyone interested in sporting a pair of ski boots, tray with drinks in hand and hitting a spiffy obstacle course, designed by the mountain staff.

Great sponsors like New Belgium Brewery and Keen Footwear are on hand to provide plenty of stoke for this unique event. The winner is awarded a new kayak, second place wins a cruiser bicycle, and third place receives a 2009-10 Monarch season pass. Participant registration for the event is $20. The entire event can be viewed from the base lodge deck and is free to the public.
