The ski season isn't over until the snow bar melts and you've seen a family dressed as Wizard of Oz characters heading down the slopes.

That's how the timing usually works out at Indianhead, the Big Chief of UP skiing and riding, according to guest services manager Debra Carey. "People love spring skiing and riding at Indianhead. You have the sun on your face, soft snow, longer days and the UP's only outside snow bar," she laughed.

Its outside snow bar with its two bartenders has become a popular springtime tradition in Big Snow Country. It lasts until the ski area closes in early April. Where else can you slide up to the bar without having to take your skis or snowboards off? It could only happen in the UP, eh.

It gets a little crazy at Ski Brule during their annual Brule Bash, which hails the coming of spring. This year's event takes place this coming weekend, March 21-22, and you'll find hundreds of skiers and riders, whole families wearing costumes and receiving free lift tickets.

"It's all about being outside and having fun in the snow," says General Manager Jessica Polich. "We have a moon bounce for the kids, sled dog races, skydivers, mattress races and snow volleyball. People come back year after year for the fun and camaraderie. Last year we had a whole family dressed as characters from the Wizard of Oz."
