Peak Retreats (0844 576 0170), which specialises in traditional French villages linked to some of the world's biggest ski areas (rather than the large purpose-built resorts for which the country is more famous), has a number of special offers during April.

The total price for an apartment for six at L'Oree des Cimes is down to £1195 (reduced from £1707) for seven nights from April 11 in Peisey-Vallandry, a key resort on the giant Paradiski pass which links Les arcs and La Plagne with nearly 300 miles of ski runs. The price is for the apartment, not per person, and is for self-drive, not flights. L'Oree des Cimes has its own indoor pool and leisure facilities/spa and beauty area and is located at the foot of slopes.

Sainte-Foy Tarentaise, well placed for Tignes, Val d'Isere, La Rosiere, and Paradiski is a good choice, with a great little ski area of its own. An apartment for six at Les Fermes de Sainte Foy on a self-catering basis, the ski-drive price including Eurotunnel crossings, not flights, now costs £594 (reduced from £849) for seven nights - less than £100 per person if six people travel. Les Fermes de Sainte-Foy also has an indoor pool and leisure facilities/spa and beauty area and is located at the foot of slopes and in the centre of the resort.

A similar sized apartment in Le Village de Lessy at Grand Bornand (Aravis) is reduced to £1030 from £1238 on the same basis for a seven-night holiday from April 4. Le Village de Lessy once again features an indoor pool and leisure facilities/spa and beauty area, and is located at the foot of slopes and in the centre of the resort.

Departure dates are flexible so you can choose to travel out with Eurotunnel on Friday (If you want to have an overnight stop en route at additional cost) or on Saturday, and return on Saturday or Sunday although accommodation is from Saturday to Saturday. The ski deal price is inclusive of a Eurotunnel premium return Flexi-Plus ticket with one car and occupants which costs £398 alone when booked with Eurotunnel direct.
