Fresh and deep powder has once again graced Colorado's mountain ranges to the delight of skiers and snowboarders. The Colorado ski areas with the highest reported snow totals from the last seven days are:
- Wolf Creek Ski Area – 46"
- Purgatory – 37"
- Steamboat – 35"
- Winter Park Resort – 28"
- Aspen – 27"
- Keystone – 24"
Skiing and snowboarding conditions will likely be excellent during Christmas week as more winter storms ride the jet stream straight into Colorado and deliver the powder goods. Check OnTheSnow's Snow Before You Go to keep apprised of the weather.
Heightened to dangerous avalanche conditions exist in the Colorado backcountry according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC). Ample fresh snow accumulation, combined with slopes that have been loaded by wind-transported snow, has created storm and/or wind slabs that may exist atop weaker layers making it easier to trigger avalanches. Consequences of triggering an avalanche may be much greater now with deeper snow packs around the state. Check CAIC weather and avalanche updates, and tread with care in the backcountry.
