Where can a family of four ski in Montana for under $100? Maverick Mountain, of course. The ski hill, located in the Pioneer Mountains of Beaverhead National Forest outside Dillon, maintains some of the lowest lift ticket rates in the state.
A family of four - two adults and two juniors - can buy lift tickets on any weekend days for $94. That leaves a few dollars left over for hot chocolate.
Maverick Mountain runs its lifts Thursdays through Sundays. One double chair with a vertical rise of 2,020 feet accesses most of its 24 trails, including the longest run at 2.5 miles. Skiers and riders can unload half way up the chairlift to ski just the lower mountain. A rope tow services beginner terrain.
The lift tickets also come with a guarantee. Should snow conditions not be to your liking within the first half-hour, you can trade your ticket in for another day.
Families with preschoolers can enroll them in learn-to-ski lessons. A lesson with rentals costs only $15 for those age five and under. Pair the lesson up with a stay in the Little Maverick Nursery to free adults up to ski for the day.
