Winter's not over, but attention is starting to wander from snow-covered slopes to the planting of snow peas in New Jersey.

Mountain Creek is gearing up for its annual Snowplow Luau and Pond Skimming party March 14.

"Kiss New Jersey winter goodbye and say hello to spring at this traditional annual wetdown. Bring your family, your friends, your suntan lotion and your towel and enjoy (or participate in) the show," say the operators.

"It's that time of the year- warm days and hot sun. We're getting together to catch rays and dip into cool waters. Grab your board or skis and a costume is a must to explore a new kind of fun and enter the pond skim. Or if you feel like hanging dry come watch with friends, family, and fun personalities," they say.

There will be barbecue and hot tub along with the fun of watching folks zip down the hill into a pond of ice cold water.

Registration for the splash bath is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the top of the pond. The madness begins at 1 p.m. Participants must be at least 18.

Mountain Creek is the big kid on the block in New Jersey.

The four-season resort transforms itself into a winter playground every December. Starting last season, Mountain Creek divided its focus in half - South Peak for freestylers, Vernon Peak for skiing families.

The resort went from about 15 percent of terrain dedicated to terrain parks to 45 percent, all at South Peak and South Lodge. South is venue for Mountain Creek's learn-to-freestyle programs with a progression across the mountain from never-ever to never-better. On the flip side, Vernon Peak now offers a more laid-back experience for families who want to ski in a relaxed atmosphere without expert snowboarders whizzing past them on beginner trails.

Mountain Creek offers 45 trails and parks, an eight-lane snow tubing park, 100 percent snowmaking and night skiing, a 1,040-foot vertical drop, and 11 lifts including the eight-passenger Cabriolet Chair, the Vernon Triple and the Sojourn Double.

The area is within two hours from anywhere in the New York City Metropolitan Area.
