Timberline Resort Hosts Governors Cup March 7-8

The Governor's Cup unfolds at Timberline Resort over two days, with the giant slalom Saturday, March 7 and the slalom Sunday, March 8.

The Governor's Cup, billed as ‘The Oldest Ski Race in the South,' is open to all comers.

Registration is 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 6. Entry fee is $15, and a discounted lift ticket is available to racers at the ticket window.

Course inspection is at 8:30 a.m. both race days, with two racing runs each day beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Governor's Cup awards are sponsored by Rossignol and Atomic, with a pair of skis going to the fastest man and woman.

Other trophies go each day to the three top men and women in various age cetegories, and trophies also go to the overall fastest man and woman based on combined times from both days of racing.

Age groups (and racing order) are 60 plus, 50-59, 9 and under, 40-49, 10-14, 30-39, 15-18, 19-29.

Race rules require bibs to be visible; no skiing through gates; no shadowing; all racers to have lift tickets; no lift line cutting; no fast or reckless skiing on public trails; no profanity or unsportsmanlike conduct; DSQ if ski comes off before second gate from the finish.
