Ischgl Hosts Freeride Inferno

The slopes of Ischgl The slopes of Ischgl

Some 70 snowboarders and freeskiers will test their limits in Ischgl for the Freeride Inferno March 7-8, 2009. The annual race is a true test of fortitude.

After a mass start, the freeriders will hurtle downhill off piste. Each freerider will choose his or her own route down the mountain, be it through woodland or obstacle jumps. The winner is the first to reach the finishing line around 1000 metres below.

Inferno event organisers say: "We believe we have in Ischgl the ideal premises, allowing us to provide the skiers and snowboarders with a demanding and diversified track. Skiers and snowborders race separately and have also different classifications, but the celebration and drinking shall be done together."

The victory ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. at the end of the second run. The participation fee is €30 including the lift ticket and food and drinks at the barbecue. As always, pieps and helmets are compulsory. Rental pieps are available but have to be booked. E-mail info@xventure.net to register for the event or find more information online.

Ischgl offers some of the best skiing in the world, with 215 kilometres of slopes, a transport capacity of 78,500 persons per hour, and 31 snow cats.
