Spring finally starts to arrive in the Sawtooth Mountains along Minnesota's north shore by the end of March, and Lutsen Mountains is planning a celebration Saturday, March 28. Located along the shores of Lake Superior, North America's fresh water sea, spring is slow to arrive this far north, and it gets a little crazy when it does. Some call it the silliest time of the year at Lutsen when spring fever starts setting in. There will be lift and lodging specials for the weekend and through the end of the season.

There will be costume contests, family fun races with great prizes, fireworks, and lots of live entertainment. All events are free and open to the public.

Friday night will start out with stand up comedy at Papa Charlie's which, arguably, is the best nightclub scene north of the Twin Cities. That will be followed by a dance party.

Saturday will be a giant deck party starting in the Summit Chalet with the heartiest beach party north of South Beach. Show up in your bathing suit and ski boots, or maybe a grass skirt. The Family Fun Race/Obstacle Course - great fun for the entire family with race gates, hurtles, and limbo - takes place that afternoon on Upper Bull Run. A costume contest also takes place after the race. There was a reason for that grass skirt.

A torchlight parade and fireworks, best seen from Papa Charlie's, takes place at dusk followed by the 3rd Annual Beach Party Bash. You can dance the night away with festivities, including Hawaiian shirt, bikini, and limbo contests, great music, great drink specials, and a tiki bar. What a great way to wind down the season, but don't put the snowsports equipment away just yet. Lutsen always remains open until mid-April.
