Disabled Sports USA Far West is a Sacramento-area based nonprofit organizaton that provides athletic and recreational opportunities for people with disabilities.
Disabled Sports USA is joining with the Wounded Warrior Project in mid-March to conduct a ski and snowboard camp for 20 active-duty soldiers and marines who have sustained injuries in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The camp, which will be held March 10-14, is part of the rehabilitation program for wounded service personnel from Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio and Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego.
Alpine Meadows will conduct a series of fundraising activities to benefit Disabled Sports USA, in association with the camp.
The Ability Challenge Race takes place Friday, March 13. The open-to-the-public event will team donors, sponsors, and disabled skiers for a day of racing and other on-hill activities. An après ski party and awards presentation will follow.
Then on the evening of Saturday, March 14, the annual Ability Bash takes place at the Alpine Meadows lodge. This year's party, which welcomes all celebrants, will offer guests an evening of gourmet cuisine, fine wine, a silent auction, and live music by the local Brazilian-beats band Sambada. Tickets are $55 in advance and $65 at the door.
