Kirkwood is a hidden gem tucked away in the high country of Alpine County, a.k.a. California's Alps.

The Wood, as it is lovingly called by the locals, has just about everything - steeps, hike-to powder stashes, great cruisers, fun terrain parks -- a skier or snowboarder wants or needs.

Over the weekend of March 6-8 Kirkwood will have just about everything female riders will want or need when it hosts its three-day Women's Weekend. The resort promises an escape "filled with adventure and fun learning to tackle all-mountain terrain with confidence and skill ... designed to upgrade your performance, enhance your style and tap your passion."

The three 5.5 - to 6-hour long daily clinics will be conducted by Kirkwood's top female guides and maybe a special guest coach or two thrown in. Each on-hill session will be followed by video analysis. Plus there will be gear from Burton, Rossignol, and Marmot to demo.

Other fun stuff include a dinner and fashion show at the Wall Bar Friday evening and a Wine, Cheese and Shopping Party Saturday night.

The clinic, which is geared toward beginner through expert snowboarders and upper-intermediate to expert skiers, costs $465 ($375 for pass-holders) and includes the above-mentioned, continental breakfasts and lunch day, and a goodie bag. Register online for the weekend.
