Grouse Plans To Be Open 24/7 During Olympics

Want to ski round the clock? You can at Grouse Mountain during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. The resort plans to run it skiing and mountain operations nonstop for 24 hours each day during the 17 days of the Olympics.

Grouse kicked off the one-year countdown to the Olympics with a 48-hour version of the around-the-clock schedule in mid-February this year. The resort staged a trial run with its 24 Hours of Winter last year. The success of the event, with over 2,000 celebrants on the mountain at 3 a.m., confirmed plans to open 24/7 during the Olympics.

Special events include sunrise and midnight snowshoe tours, a marathon of winter action sports films at the Theatre in the Sky, and rides on the Air Grouse Mountain Zipline circuit. Other activities include ice skating, dining, contests, sleigh rides, and, of course, skiing and riding the slopes.

Lifts will run nonstop for the duration of the Olympic Games for skiers and snowboarders. A rotating run grooming schedule will keep the runs fresh. Grouse's terrain parks will also remain open for the duration, with periodic closures for maintenance.

"This is our way of celebrating this once in a lifetime event," says general manager Michael Cameron. "The Games are truly a rare Canadian experience to celebrate."
