The social event of the season - perhaps of the entire year - in the North Lake Tahoe region takes place Saturday, Feb. 28, when Squaw Valley hosts its annual prom night.

The prom, a.k.a. Enchantment Under KT, is full-ledged bash, and fashion is a critical element - with theme being 1970s and ‘80s formal. So there's no reason why the guys can't bust out the powder blue suit and the gals can't don bigger, lacier frocks.

But the prom is not just an excuse to play dress-up. The event is dedicated to raising funds for the Lake Kip Memorial Fund that helps to assist individuals with spinal cord injury participate in outdoor sports. This year, the Lake Kip Memorial Fund chose to support Disabled Sports USA's Wounded Warrior Project with a grant for $10,000.

Tickets are $50 per couple and $100 for those who prefer to go it alone. Tickets are on sale now online.

So don't be afraid to break out the velour as you head for the Plaza Bar for the 9 p.m. opening of this year's fifth annual Squaw Valley Prom.

Squaw has 18 lifts serving 400 acres. The area is 42 miles from Reno and just less than 200 miles from San Francisco.
