Perfect skiing – perfect dining

Lech Zürs am Arlberg, June 2014

Always one of the first, always one of the best. When it comes to innovations in winter sports, you can be sure that it's always Lech Zürs am Arlberg that is setting new standards. The pioneering spirit of this high-altitude Alpine region was delighting holidaymakers as early as 1906, when the first skiing course was offered here. Ever since then, the people of Arlberg have continued on a positive note – from developing one of the world's best ski resorts to preserving its identity as a traditional, informal mountain village in the face of progress. This unique symbiosis of tradition and modernity is one of the many reasons why Lech Zürs am Arlberg has been accepted into the exclusive circle of the 12 "Best of the Alps" resorts.

Predestined by nature

The Limestone Alps in the north and the giant ice-covered prehistoric rocks in the south
characterise the unique mountain landscape of Lech Zürs am Arlberg. Anyone who has experienced a crystal-clear winter morning on one of the 340 kilometres of freshly-prepared pistes or one of the 200 km of high Alpine deep powder snow runs is drawn back, time after time, by the fascination of this area and the passion for skiing. It is the unrivalled variety and the guarantee of snow from the end of November to the end of April which makes this skiing region a home from home for demanding international winter guests. Many of them are regular guests who make the pilgrimage to Arlberg year after year, nurture true mountain friendships with innkeepers and ski instructors and have the yen to improve themselves continuously. They have access to around 800 professional snow sport instructors whose passion for and enjoyment of skiing is quickly passed on.

Whether you're looking for deep powder snow, or blue, red or black runs – the Arlberg Card means skiers and snowboarders can enjoy their winter sport to the full and can use all the lifts and cable cars in Lech Zürs and the neighbouring resorts.

Heavenly off-piste deep powder snow

Even though 41 per cent of the pistes are classified as suitable for beginners, Lech Zürs am Arlberg is mainly known for one thing – the incomparable enjoyment of deep powder snow.  There is scarcely any other resort where you can experience such a variety of top class skiing. Ski tourers can delight in the peerless character of the landscape on the ways up, sweep through the powder snow during the sporting challenge, and enjoy the unspoiled natural landscape.

Freeriders also consider Lech Zürs am Arlberg to be an Alpine Mecca for deep powder snow. US production company Warren Miller Productions is also sure of this. In its skiing film "Wintervention" it shows the world's best free-riding stars in their latest adventures in the ski resort of Lech Zürs. And Lorraine Huber, runner up in the Free-ride World Championships 2014 and born in Lech, appreciates the endless expanse of deep powder snow in Arlberg and, in her role as official ambassador of Lech Zürs, hopes that many keen off-pisters will also catch the free-riding bug.

Adventurous souls can get a very exclusive kick in Arlberg with heli-skiing – and, by the way, Lech Zürs is the only resort in Austria to offer this. Of course, there are precise restrictions on this with regard to nature conservation – only when accompanied by ski guides, in specific locations and solely on weekdays.

Make a connection with the amazing Auenfeldjet

1+1=180 − the Auenfeldjet, a two kilometre long 10-seater gondola, has been linking the ski resorts of Lech Zürs and Warth-Schröcken since the 2013/2014 winter season, creating the largest ski region in Vorarlberg with 47 lifts and cable cars, and 180 kilometres of runs. The newly created ski region gives ambitious sportspeople and pleasure skiers even more variety in one of the snowiest regions in the Alps. Great care was taken to protect the environment when building the Auenfeldjet and it is an example of how to connect two ski regions in perfect harmony.

Enjoyable carving all week long

The special offers from Lech and Zürs have long achieved cult status. In 2014 Lech Zürs is celebrating the start of the winter season with the "Go White" action weeks – outstanding events will be taking place in the three weeks before Christmas such as the 3rd Snow&Safety Conference, the "Tanzcafé Arlberg" CD presentation and the Cineastic Gondolas. Skiers who are not reliant on holiday dates for their enjoyment of unlimited winter sport appreciate the Ski Crystal weeks, for example, which invite you to enjoy skiing in the sun from 18−26 April 2015. Devotees of exquisite cuisine will want to note in their diaries the "LöffelWeise" series of gourmet events, which invite you to take a culinary tour around Arlberg in a total of ten top restaurants from January to April 2015. Join in the lively end-of-season celebrations from 29 March to 12 April 2015 at the Tanzcafé Arlberg in Lech Zürs, with après ski parties just like there used to be.
